This was the third portrait photoshoot with this family over the last few years. (First was of Kate as a newborn). We postponed this one several times until the weather, schedules and stars all aligned. It was worth it of course, for that sunwashed, sun-flare look in the photos.

This was the tail end of summer. Now of course we’re in that great cross-over period between summer and autumn – the sun is lower in the sky for great backlit images all day, in a few weeks the autumn colours will add a wonderful colour palette.

Very brief update.

Every year I do a Christmas photoshoot with my cousins, the ‘Other Charlie Round-Turner‘ (for their Christmas card).  We just recently completed this year’s, managing to get some lovely shots from the usual pandemonium. However, below is last year’s, since I have it ready as a video.

Autumn colours are here and beginning to wane. I’m churning through ideas for my own annual silliness (eg. last year and one of my busier composites). I’m liable to incorporate some motion this year, watch this space…

Meanwhile, here are Will and Emily, larking about…

The sun is shining, Wimbledon is heating up – summer is here!

Quick update as I’m getting ready for the Northcote Rd Fête this Sunday 12th (come along! I’ll have a stall) and the Ickle Pickles Summer Fair next Saturday 18th (come along! I’ll be taking photos and video).

Meanwhile, in this recent photoshoot, young George here discovered that yes, you CAN destroy your cake AND eat it too.

Only one cake was harmed in the making of this photoshoot, but as the song goes –

‘It wasn’t my idea – it was Busy Bee’s, I swear!’   (I just made up that song actually 😛 )

I’ve put the photos in REVERSE chronological order, just to be perverse. 😀

Merry Christmas everyone!
OK kids, a challenge for you… YES, THERE WILL BE A PRIZE!
My little stop-motion video is a pretty simple one, I’m sure you can do better…

This just gives you an idea. I’m looking for funny and/or interesting/clever stop-motion videos.
I used my big fancy-looking camera on a tripod, but you can probably do it on a smart-phone, there are even Apps that help.

Prize for the best video: GBP25 in vouchers for Hamley’s Toys (or a bookstore if your parents prefer).

Deadline: Midnight on 11th January 2015

RULES! (sorry)
1. Adult help is allowed, but kids have to be involved (you kids will likely have better ideas anyway).
2. EITHER: Ask your parent/guardian to share your video on Facebook, then follow and share my Facebook page with friends
OR: Follow my YouTube channel, share your video on YouTube, then tweet it mentioning my Twitter handle @charlieRTphoto (and follow me of course). Again, using parent/guardian social media account.

This is less about winning a prize, more about having fun being creative, so get those imaginations going!

Lastly here’s another silly video from Team Charlie…

Whew! Got some autumn light for the video we had been planning. Another of my video+photo fusions.
Cherry Tree Woods in North London is, on the one hand, just another of many small green parks in London.
It doesn’t appear to be as spectacular as many of London’s other excellent parks, but it has it’s own charm and a long history.
There is also a great patch of trees with green moss, that looked even better in a precisely aimed patch of sunlight.
The red-brown leaves provided a great colour contrast to the green.
Add one mischievous family – top result. 🙂

I am well and truly into shooting video – on its own as well as video+photo fusion.

More videos to come soon, but here’s one example of lifestyle video + photography fusion portraiture. I liked her ‘boho’ style and we were blessed with great weather.

It may be a cliche, but sun flare just adds a great feeling to imagery. Of course one can do a different kind of wonderful imagery with soft light, but not getting much sunlight in London recently means I get excited when it IS sunny…

Here are a few photos from the same session:

More pregnancy portraits with regular clients. Like the previous post, I’ve done several photoshoots with this couple, including their wedding.

I shot their engagement photos in the same parts of Clapham Common, so we thought it appropriate to do the pregnancy shots here too.

Aaanndd… I recently met baby Nadia who has now arrived (still a bump here obviously)! Those pics at a later stage.

Lots of new arrivals this spring! Another pregnancy portrait experience coming up today. And here’s one from a couple of weeks ago.

Clients turn into friends and one can watch their families grow.

It was about a year ago I was at Bob & Jen’s wedding in France, and a year or so before that at their engagement. This time they were in London for the birth of wee Emily (whom I will meet in September). Emily arrived about a week after we did these photos. 🙂

In London we tend to be especially appreciative of sunny days. As a photographer, I’m doubly so! Great images can be made whatever the weather, but for families outdoors, sun does help.

For both of these photoshoots, we managed to grab a sunny day in an otherwise pretty cloudy and wet period. The autumn colours on Clapham Common were great as always, but the winter sun (just a few days before Christmas) in Brockwell Park was also wonderful. I even got wonderful sun for another family shoot a few days after Christmas as well. I guess I’m blessed… 🙂

Stick a kid up a tree, sun behind – viola!

Now enjoying the start of spring, get in touch to schedule your family photoshoot in the sun!

So finally we found time to make the team portrait.

Chief Photographer Charlie was, as usual, reluctant to be in front of the camera instead of behind it. The other Charlies were causing their usual mischief…

Some of you will recognise someone who usually accompanies me on family photoshoots, see if the kids can spot her…

Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for 2014, from Team Charlie!

Autumn came late this year. But we found a pile of leaves for little Jacob here to play in, even though the trees on Wandsworth Common were still mostly green.

He certainly appreciated the leaves – he seemed to want to eat them, which kept his parents and I on our toes!

We finished off with a few photos back at home after a little nap by the star of the show.

A couple of months ago I shot this wedding in Provence, south of France, at the wonderful Crillon le Brave near Avignon. The food was great, the staff pampered us wonderfully and the setting was stunning. But it was the people that made for a fun weekend, we literally took over the place.

The Tour de France often passes close by and heads up the imposing Mont Ventoux in the background.

This has a tough reputation (an English cyclist died at the top) and at the peak I experienced first hand another infamous local – the Mistral wind. (See my shot from the peak on my other blogsite). It also created some great sunset cloud formations (see shots towards end of blog post).

The Mistral prevented us actually eating outdoors for the wedding dinner, but otherwise we enjoyed the great outdoor summer Provencal lifestyle. I quite liked the ‘windswept and interesting’ conditions, to quote Billy Connolly the well-known Scottish comedian and character. I thought this quite appropriate considering many of the guests were Scottish. Though having said that, the American contingent held their own – Bob’s parents were I think the first on the dance floor. This was an American-Scottish wedding in Provence!

I’d met many of them before at a previous family event I photographed for them, and this was the third time Bob & Jenn (the now married couple) have had me along to do photos for them and the boys. Needless to say, they always make me feel at home and it was a great laugh as you can see. Too many great characters to mention, but Rhoda the grandmother made a great impression on me (this the second time we met). She’s like the warm heart at the centre of this fun group of people. She speaks Highland Gaelic too, very cool in my book. 🙂

OK enough waxing lyrical from me, on to the photos!
